Bartender's Choice App Reviews

Excellent, but minor problems

Great app. I use it all the time. My only complaint, and the reason why I bump it down to 4 stars, is that the "Details" section, where it provides extra information (e.g. Forward, Glossary, Glassware and Equipment, Ice, How to Jigger, etc.) malfunctions: it can be read, but it only fills half the screen. The print is tiny and you cannot zoom in. It would be perfect if the creators would fix this problem! Otherwise, I still recommend this app for the novice and the seasoned.

The best

Easily the best cocktail anthology app out there.

Fantastic app in need of updates

This is possibly the best and only cocktail app youll need. If you want to learn to make Milk & Honey style drinks as well as classics this app is for you. However, it is in desperate need of updating. It still isnt optimized for iPhone 5 or 6 so it has black bars on newer phones. The glossary section has major formatting issues and some drinks are missing photos or reuse them. The recipes are great (some new ones would be amazing too) but it looks like the developers have sadly abandoned this app.

Not this bartenders choice

Not very good, missing a few staples like a Ceaser aka bloody Mary, not shots at all....

Excellent, but incomplete

Excellent collection of carefully curated cocktail recipes. No pre-flavored vodkas or other junk ingredients. No 8 different versions of the martini or margarita. Smidgeon of historical info on each recipe. Good (but not great) interface. High quality advice on extras like shaping ice, muddling, etc. Inexplicably missing some standards, like the Bloody Mary, for which it loses one star.

It seems ok but...

It seems ok but, it has some short comings. You cant (as of first release) put it for metric system, sadly, there is no discription of the various syrups how theyre made etc. Like the Tiki+ app you can tap anything and you get a discription. And then there is the usual: does he really make that cocktail with those specs? aperol sour? Its an extensive list, but misses many classics and then has alot of their own cocktails put in, is it a good balance - I dont know, for $3 its fine but I probably wont use it, unless fixed up... Could go for more stars if issues where fixed. But 1-2 stars is what I give it.

Worth far more than $3. DO IT!!

This very clean, easy to use app is the gates to the milk and honey drinking experience - all recipes explained with accuracy and clarity. Its an outstanding drink list, including various rarely used sources. In many ways the superior, updated version of other similar apps. It even includes a how-to category for young bartenders at home, or professional. This is THE Milk & Honey guide to making the finest alcoholic beverages... Could you ask for a more prestigious bar/bartenders to open their manual and explain their inner workings? Not likely. Its the quintessential classic cocktail manual. DO IT

Great app!!!

I Love this app....great Job!!! The best Mixology app ever!!! Cheers

This is the mixology app Ive been looking for.

Suggestions, alphabetical recipes, search by ingredient, and tips on technique. I dont agree with some of the recipe suggestions, but one can add notes as needed, and thats half the fun of mixing your own drinks. Highly recommend.

The wait is over!

Great overall for the first go. Could use some minor tweaks. Found it odd the Golden Cadillac called for 4 oz of OJ. Love it. Definitely worth 3 bucks and the chance to "replicate" the Milk&Honey experience at home, minus the accent.

Gold mine!

This is a rudimentary app, but it contains a gold mine of drink recipes that are either classic cocktails tuned for use today or contemporary cocktails in the classic vein, all informed by Milk & Honey’s decade (!) on the front lines of New York City’s cocktail renaissance. The app store has dozens of garbage drink recipe apps; this is one of the few that contains drinks actually worth trying, and most of them are simple to execute and don’t require lots of advance planning or preparations. This isn’t the cocktail app to end all cocktail apps, but for a few bucks, it’s a steal. [Disclosure: I’m the developer of the Beachbum Berry’s Tiki+ app, I’m the developer of the lost, lamented Cocktails+ app and I have no relationship whatsoever with the developers of this app or Milk & Honey, nor was I aware of this project before it was released.]

Falls short

"Bartenders Choice" may have a big name behind it but thats not enough to make it my go-to cocktail app unless major changes are made. Because Ive been to Milk & Honey and had a good experience there, Ill provide a couple suggestions: 1. You need to show me what drinks I can actually make using whats in my home bar. This is crucial. I dont feel comfortable holding my iPhone up to a busy bartender to have them try and read a recipe off the screen. I prefer to experiment at home. Right now I have to browse dozens of recipes until I find a drink I have the required ingredients for. 2. Several well known variations of classic recipes are missing. For example, the app includes a "Perfect Manhattan" but not a "Dry Manhattan". Ironically, it includes a "Dry Martini" but not a "Perfect Martini". Its also missing the "Sweet" variations for both. So far Ive found these sort of inconsistencies to be common.

Well worth the price!

Great app guys! Within minutes I was fixing myself a Left Handed Cocktail at my home bar. Delicious drinks, great search/ navigation features.

Finally, The Real Deal!!!

What distinguishes this app from the others is that this is an authentic, curated list of great cocktails that are actually served in the great classic cocktails bars. This is NOT a general purpose encyclopedia of every drink ever made, good and bad. This is a great primer for the uninitiated and a must have for serious bartenders, pros and home mixologists alike. Awesome.

Needs work

Not satisfied difficult to navigate, interesting cocktails but not practical for my high volume bar. Was looking for something like the bartenders black book

Great Update!

What a fast and great update! Thanks for doing that so quickly. Works perfectly. Some of these reviews are so odd. Why are people holding up an iPhone to their bartender? And why are some actual bartenders using this live behind the bar?! I think theyve missed the point.

Buy It!

Not perfect,as few are,so no 5th Star. However, This is a stellar app. As a Bartender I have referred to it often as an educational tool and for inspiration. More than worth $3 bucks. It is not and does not claim to be a list of every cocktail known to man so you cant fault them for leaving out some cocktails. Just to have some of the Milk N Honey recipes as well as others from modern icons of bar tending is also worth the $3. Buy It!!

Inaccurate

The latest version seems to have fixed the freezing issue I experienced when using the suggest feature. That said, Im still finding several recipes with incorrect proportions. Here are a few inaccurate recipes I found within a few minutes of browsing - Aviation #2 (should be 3:1:1), Tuxedo #2 (should have equal proportions of Gin and Dry Vermouth). Dry Martini (should be 4:1). I thought the recipes in this app were curated and reviewed by experts?

Best cocktail app out there

This app is full of great classic drinks and subtle variations of classics that are brilliant in their simplicity (and recipes I have never seen before). In other words, its like having a drink at milk and honey. It is a great addition to any cocktail book collection.

One of my most used apps

Great design, I love being able to access all my favorite milk and honey drinks in one place, instead of making crappy notes on my phone. Looking forward to what comes next!!
